I must quite procrastinating. A colleague of mine in Salmon Arm was battling cancer and another coworker and I kept saying we were going to go visit, but something always came up and I hadn’t seen him in ages. A few emails to keep in touch, but I got the very sad news yesterday that he passed away.

If you ever listened to the radio in Salmon Arm you heard the distinctive voice of Bob Crouse. He was the News Director and Morning News Anchor the voice of the Shuswap and Columbia’s for decades. He was member of our team at CKXR for over 30 years was best known for his strong voice, excellence in reporting and love of the job. Some of Bob’s best work as a journalist came during the 1998 wildfires in Fly Hills and Silver Creek, where he was thanked by the community for his calm, factual reporting as half the town was evacuated. I’m pretty sure he slept on the floor at the radio station in a sleeping bag for days, what little sleep he did get, because informing the community came first. Bob also loved hunting and finding someone to fill in for him so he could go each fall was tricky, but it was his love so we made it happen.

I will fondly remember a wonderful colleague who I respected very much.
